When you are exposed to cold and wet conditions without the proper equipment for prolonged periods of time you may develop the following symptoms in your extremities:

– Tingling and/or itching sensation
– Pain
– Swelling
– Cold and blotchy skin
– Numbness
– Prickly or heavy feeling in the foot

These symptoms can last a short time or may become permanent depending on the severity of the exposure. This is known as a non-freezing cold injury or NFCI and it is far too common in the UK armed forces. If you were in the Military and suffered from non-freezing cold injury, you may be able to claim compensation even if you weren’t medically discharged.
